With a wide program of activities in digital platforms, the people of Holguín will celebrate until next Sunday, April 4, the 476th anniversary of the establishment of the Hato San Isidoro de Holguín.

Organized by the Municipal Directorate of Culture, the activities include scenic presentations, theoretical meetings, musical and literary presentations in social networks, complying with health regulations to prevent Covid-19, told ACN Armando Machado Tamayo, a specialist at the institution.

The activities will be dedicated to the 60th and 59th anniversary of the José Martí Pioneers Organization (OPJM) and the Union of Young Communists (UJC), respectively, as children and young people are essential pillars in the Cuban Revolution, Machado said.

La Periquera Museum of this eastern city will hold the 19th event “La Ciudad que queremos” (The city we want) via online, presented by researcher Hiram Pérez Concepción, director of the Office of the Historian in Holguín, to address the origins of the town.

The agenda also includes the presentation of the book Vientos de abril (April Winds), by writer Ronel González in Casa de Iberoamérica and the house of Lieutenant Governor, considered to be the oldest one in the city.

The activities will extend to the Popular Councils and the communities of the municipality, supported by cultural projects, promoters and art instructors.

The establishment of Hato de San Isidoro de Holguín on April 4, 1545, started the history of the current city and with it the Holguín identity and values that characterize its inhabitants.
