Cuban authorities announced today that the non-commercial importation of food, medicines and toiletries will be extended until December 31, with new benefits for families.

The exemption from payment of tariffs up to 20 kilograms (kg), equivalent to 200 dollars, will be extended to 50, and the shipment of the aforementioned products will also be allowed as unaccompanied cargo, specified the Cuban News Agency.

In addition, medical supplies may be imported, from equipment to accessories, for people with disabilities or reduced mobility.

Passengers, in order to be exempt from customs taxes, must bring food, toiletries and medicines separately in luggage with a limit of 20 kg, while shipments by any transitory air, sea and postal company can weigh up to 50 kg.

The food, toiletries and medicines that accompany the passenger will have a limit of 20 kilograms, and in order to be exempt from customs taxes they must come separately and not mixed with other luggage, as has always been required, and when imported for some transitory air, sea or postal is accepted weighing up to 50 kg.

The Minister of Finance and Prices, Vladimir Regueiro, explained at press conference the advisability of keeping this measure adopted in 2021 in force, given the deficit of goods and services, in addition to the limitations caused by the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.
