Holguín athletes obtain their tickets to Santo Domingo 2026

After outstanding performances in international qualifying events, two female athletes from Holguín have secured their tickets to the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.
Cyclist Evelyn Díaz Matos won a bronze medal at the Caribbean Elite Road Cycling Championship, held in Belize, where she showed resistance, strategy and determination that led her to the podium, thus qualifying for the upcoming regional Games.
On the other hand, at the Rowing Qualifying Event held on Lake Petén Itzá, Guatemala, Holguín´s Ana Laura Jiménez won two tickets in diferent categories.
In the women's lightweight double sculls, the duo of Ana Laura and Leah Almeida placed fourth in the A Final. They finished with a time of 7:27.520, 00:12.460 behind first place, in a highly competitive event.
Meanwhile, in the women's double sculls, Loraidis Echeverría and Ana Laura Jiménez won the silver medal, securing their official qualification for Santo Domingo 2026. They finished in second place with a time of 7:29.58, only behind the Mexican boat, which won gold with 7:20.55.
For her part, Taymara Oropesa continues her quest for qualification, which will be determined by her world ranking. After her two bronze medals at the Santo Domingo Tournament, the Holguín athlete earned points in all events (individual, women's double, and mixed double).
Taymara now ranks in 330th place, with 3,840 points; in mixed doubles, she is ranked 335th, with the same 3,840 points, alongside her partner, Roberto Carlos Herrera; while in women's doubles, alongside Leyanis Contreras, she is ranked 254th on the international list, with 4,320 points.
The Holguín badminton player will look to continue adding points, as she participates this weekend in the 2nd International Tournament of Venezuela, in all categories.
