More than 221 people have been reduced to dust, as if to ensure no one could find them, much less identify them.
The waters of the Caribbean and the Eastern Pacific have been used as a kind of firing range—in this case, rockets launched from U.S. warships—in an operation called Southern Spear, which could well have been dubbed a "bloody feast in Pacific waters."
The victims may have been out fishing from the coasts of Venezuela, Ecuador, or Colombia.
In the case of the families of these human beings, there wasn't even a notification of their deaths. Not even the slightest possibility of mourning beside the coffins of their father, brother, or son.
This reality and this bloody maritime landscape began in September 2025, and the recorded victims correspond to figures up to July 2026, according to news reports from The Washington Post.
The same publication notes that President Trump has proclaimed that the bombings have "virtually ended" maritime drug trafficking. However, an unpublished DEA assessment, cited by the newspaper, concludes that the attacks have not affected the supply or price of cocaine.
The Washington Post reports that cocaine prices on the streets of the United States remain stable ($60-$100 per gram).
Seizures reported by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) actually increased by 2% after the bombings, rising from 25.69 tons in the ten months prior to the attacks to 26.17 tons between September 2025 and June 2026.
The head of Southern Command himself, Francis Donovan, acknowledged before the Senate in March that "bombing is not the answer."
Faced with the lack of results, the Trump administration has changed its approach: it is no longer a "war" on drugs, but an ideological crusade, "the fight against communism."
And, assuming that among those killed by American shrapnel there were some involved in drug trafficking, why then were their bodies pulverized so that no trace remained?
If the United States – as Trump says – is the most democratic government in the world (which very few can believe, of course), why not present evidence and one of those involved – who isn't completely broken – so that justice can determine the truth? (Source: Granma)
