The Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Power Plant in Felton stopped operations this morning to undertake a scheduled repair that had been limiting the electric generation of this important plant for the National Electric System (SEN).
The Electric Union confirmed via its social media that the cooling process of the affected area was underway to examine the damage located very close to the dome, at the top of the boiler in Block One. A crack in this area had increased water consumption in the production process in recent days, forcing a reduction in energy output.
During a visit to the plant, Joel Queipo Ruíz, First Secretary of PCC in Holguín, assessed the preparations, resources, and logistical conditions for carrying out corrective actions and technical improvements on the turbine generator, according to a report by journalist Emilio Rodríguez of Radio Mayarí.
During the inspection, critical routes and the condition of the generating unit were reviewed, with particular attention paid to the boiler area where a water and steam leak is occurring.

Víctor Hugo González Quiala, the plant's technical director, stated that the intervention and welding work will require several days due to the high temperatures and the cooling processes necessary to ensure safety during the work.
The director commented that, depending on the cooling time, they would be approaching the affected area between Thursday evening and the early hours of Friday, at which point the extent of the damage and the repair time could be determined.
Among the tasks planned after the unit is shut down are improvements to high-pressure heater number one and other critical components. The necessary resources for these tasks are already available at the plant, it was reported.
It was also learned that the work will include approximately 80 actions, including cleaning the regenerative air heaters and removing slag from the boiler area.
The Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Plant, considered among the most efficient in Cuba, has its second block out of service, affected by a fire when the start-up process began after a partial capitalizable maintenance that was expected to incorporate around 220 megawatts into the National Electric System (SEN) in the summer of 2022.
