Actions underway to guarantee water supply in Holguín

The Territorial Delegation of Hydraulic Resources in Holguín continues to strengthen the water supply through investments and equipment recovery with the aim to ensure water supply in the face of the intense drought affecting the territory.
Juan Mario Echavarría Hernández, the sector's delegate, said that work is being done on the city's eastern and northern water systems to maximize the volume of water available amid equipment and electricity shortages.
With the support of non-state sector workers and water companies, existing resources are being optimized and the infrastructure at water treatment plants and pumping stations is being maintained, he indicated.
He added that a successful hydraulic test was conducted on a new pipeline at the Cacoyugüín dam, intended to supply key sites like the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University Hospital.
In the municipalities of Banes, Calixto García, and Rafael Freyre, measures are being implemented to enable generators and recover essential equipment to ensure service continuity.
The province is also working to eliminate leaks and flood zones, conduct feasibility studies for drilling wells, and add new customers as a way to reduce water leakage from pipelines.
Holguín is experiencing its driest period in a decade, which has affected more than 400,000 residents, especially in the provincial capital, where damage and service interruptions have been prolonged. (Source: ACN)
