The Holguín Fishing Company promotes various farming and capture processes with the aim to improve product quality, increase exports, and ensure local supply.
Known by its commercial name Holpes, the company operates in several coastal areas and reservoirs in the province and consists of five production-based business units (UEBs) plus one logistics unit.
The company's main business is aquaculture and the export of specific species, supported by investments to modernize cultivation areas and the equipment of the breeding parks, said Sergio Castañón López, director of the industry.
Among the prominent units, UEB Comar stands out for its role in local food supply, while the Acuanipe branch in Mayarí is notable for capturing and selling the processed Tenca HG product abroad, he added.
Castañón López commented that UEB Pesca Nipe is recognized for capturing and marketing various marine species near Moa, such as cojinúa, angula, clam, crab, and sea cucumber, the latter being a highly valuable export ítem.
However, Holpes faces challenges like a shortage of fishing boats, especially in UEB Conchazul, which also operates in a limited fishing zone. However, an improvement process is being carried out in the parks and oyster farming areas to meet targets.
Holpes strengthens its industrial processes in the face of raw material difficulties, and diversifies production with sustainable methods that ensure food quality and safety, and compensates for technical shortcomings with the company's internal reserves. (Source: ACN)
