After a second day closer to his best records, the Cuban Leonel Suarez has reasons to celebrate the fourth place reached in Talence, France, almost a year after having completed a decathlon for the last time.

The two-time Olympic and world medalist did not perform the 10 events since he won in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, and last Saturday he had finished ninth in a competition included in the world circuit of multiple events.

He completed his performance on Sunday with 15 seconds in the 110 meters with hurdles, 46.87 meters in discus throw and 69.24 in javelin throw, jumped 4.65 meters in the pole vault, and closed with 4: 25.09 minutes in the 1500 meters.

All that was valid to round total of 7 thousand 965 points and place fourth, only surpassed by the Canadian Pierce Lepage (8 453), the American Zachery Ziemek (8 344) and the Belgian Thomas Van Der Plaetsen (8 214).

Leonel was very effective, especially in his usual strong events, as in the discus throw he was barely 20 centimeters from his best lifetime record (47.07) and in the javelin he touched the 70 meters.

The only thing to regret is -perhaps- that he did not exceed 8,000 points, conditioned by the discreet results of the first day. However, it should be seen as a good step on the training that will take him to the Pan American Games in Lima, where he aspires to the podium.

The Decastar was the fourth stop of the circuit of this type of events, which will reconvene for Ratingen, Germany, on 29 and 30 of this month.
