The Holguin Leuris Pupo, Olympic champion of London 2012, will debut this Tuesday in the World Cup of sport shooting, based in Munich, Germany, until May 30.

Pupo, and his teammate Jorge Félix Álvarez, will come to the line of fire in the qualifying round of the 25-meter fast-shooting pistol, in order to be included among the finalists who will discuss the medals in that event.

Both sport shooters are aspiring to the podium in a modality in which are registered the first 10 of the world-wide ranking, led by the Chinese Junmin Lin, defending champion of that contest.

Last year Alvarez won bronze medal in Munich by totaling 25 points in the grand final of six shooters, a decisive phase in which Lin (32) and the German Oliver Geis (30) won the gold medals and silver, respectively.

So far, shooter Eglys de la Cruz, who was placed in the 16th place in the air rifle at 10 m, has achieved the best Cuban performance in that tournament.

De la Cruz, winner of the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008, totaled 627.9 units in the preliminaries of that specialty, in which her countrywoman Dianelys Pérez (625.4) finished in 45th place among 149 registered athletes, according to the official website of the International Shooting Federation.

For the sport shooters of the island, the World Cup serves as preparation for the Pan American Games in Lima, to be held from July 26 to August 11 next. / ACN
