Holguín athletes win bronze at Pan American Women's Baseball Championship

Three players and one coach from Holguín won the bronze medal at the 5th Pan American Women's Baseball Championship, held in Venezuela.
Athletes Aylén García Cordoví, Eleyennis Estupiñán Consuegra, and Yanet Carbonell Salinas, along with coach Edilberto Vera Cruz, were part of the Cuban team that secured third place in this continental tournament.
Cuba finished the qualifying phase with three wins and one loss, placing second in their group after a crucial victory against Mexico. All the Holguín players actively participated in the tournament, contributing in various roles on the team.
Pitcher Aylén García Cordoví stood out with a record of one win and one loss and an earned run average (ERA) of 4.06. She pitched in three games, working 10.1 innings, allowing 12 hits and 10 runs, striking out five batters, and recording a WHIP of 1.49, demonstrating a notable performance on the mound.
Yanet Carbonell Salinas, also a pitcher, had less success with one loss and an ERA of 16.80 in 1.2 innings pitched, while Eleyennis Estupiñán Consuegra excelled offensively with a .250 batting average, scoring four runs and driving in two, helping the overall team performance.
In the semifinals, Cuba faced Mexico again but lost. However, in the bronze medal game, Cuba defeated Nicaragua 9-8 in a thrilling match held at Estadio Jorge Luis García Carneiro, securing the bronze medal and qualification for the 2026 Women's Baseball World Cup.
Upon returning to Holguín, Aylén García Cordoví, Yanet Carbonell Salinas, and coach Edilberto Vera received a warm welcome in Calixto García municipality, where family, neighbors, and Inder officials recognized their outstanding participation and effort during the championship.
