Holguín table tennis player Andy Pupo Hidalgo won a historic silver medal in the National Championship of this sport, which was held in the hall of the Cerro Pelado National School, a result that allowed the Holguín team to be placed in sixth place by provinces.
Pupo Hidalgo fell in the final of the individual event against Eday Gómez from Pinar del Río and became, at only 17 years old, the first man from Holguín to win a medal in national events in this discipline, a social category, according to Alexander Moreno Hernández, provincial commissioner of table tennis.
The Holguín delegation also obtained fifth place in the tournament for men's teams, while in the doubles competition, Andy and Pedro Luís finished in sixth place.
Ana Esther Díaz (juvenile category) and Dania Taureaux González (master category) from Holguín reached seventh place in the team competition and contributed to Holguín improving the ninth place, reached in the last national championship, in 2019.
Andy, Pedro Luís and Dennis will represent the province in the next National Games of the youth category, a contest that will take place in Santiago de Cuba from the 20th to the 25th of this month, in which Holguín will seek to improve the ninth place of the previous edition.
