Civil and bioengineering engineer Felipe Nagel and a team of university students released a device that helps to eliminate the shaking of hands and ease the effects of Parkinson's.

At a press conference, Nagel said that essential tremor is the most common involuntary movement disease and is often confused with Parkinson's, even when it is eight times more frequent.

He started the works in 2014 to create Grace, which is the name of the portable device, along with a group made up of Federico Jensen, Alex Cariman, Cedric Little and Pablo Prato.

The idea was to design a revolutionary biomedical device to help also those who suffer involuntary movements caused by Parkinson's.

He said that the most difficult issue was creating a non-invasive alternative for those people whose life is very damaged, without drug consumption or operations.

Daniela Torrejon, a 24-year old Chilean woman, suffers from this disease and was one of the 30 people who used the device.
'This is a significant progress for a condition that is not widely known and completely damages your life. When using the device I felt a tremendous emotion, because finally my hand stopped moving,' said Torrejon.

Grace's patent is pending in the United States and is expected to be sold in 2019 at a price of 1,000 dollars.

In the United States it is estimated that more than 10 million people suffer from essential tremors.

Before completing the process, tests will be carried out in Chile jointly with the Center for Movement Disorders of Chile. / PL
