A project for the link between science and institutions is being developed at the University of Holguin.
The Science-Technology Park is presented as a scientific support infrastructure, located at the “Oscar Lucero Moya” headquarters, in order to strengthen ties between the academy, the territorial government and the entities of the province.
Its objective is to become an interface between the academic and governmental sector, and the productive and services sector to offer advice and the management of research, development and innovation projects, as well as commercialize the results of knowledge and innovations of high impact on the territorial business system.
It is also a variant for the application of science, technology and innovation that allows promoting the transfer of goods, services and other intangible resources derived from research into the productive sector, ensuring access to income by institutions and people involved in those programs.
The physical spaces are still at the construction project phase, with a building recovery plan that demands an investment of an estimated 1.5 million CUC (Cuban convertible pesos). The first phase includes the restoration of the structural supports, for which about 200 thousand CUC have been collected from international cooperation.
“The current state of the facilities only allows us to assume the management carried out through agreements and contracts with different actors of the business network, but we cannot wait for the constructive completion of the infrastructure to start the project. There is a premise located at the General Directorate of the University for the processing of all these projects, a place where the entities come with certain demands and the trained staff directs them to where they can have an answer to their need”, says Ana de Lourdes Torralbas, economic director of the center of higher studies.
The Scientific-Technological Park includes those proposals that close the innovation cycle: research, development and implementation, because it ends with the commercialization and implementation of the product. For this purpose, new agreements have been established with entities where this type of solution is promoted.
The project stands out the Provincial Company of Various Local Industries (AVIL), which carries out a program aimed at the recovery of raw materials from the use of plastic containers to manufacture brooms, fans, brushes and other household tools, as well as providing employment to the entity's workforce.
This company contributes to the closure of the cycle of the two product patents already held by the Holguin University that includes the pitching trainer device of the real-size prototype being elaborated to reach the new commercialization phase in a short time, and the second one already in operation is related to the manufacture of or energy regulators for refrigeration equipment.
It also encourages the link with other companies in the automation of metal mold technology for housing construction and with the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) in a machine for the cleaning of beaches.
The Food Production and Distribution Company (Numa) and the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the university have also joined efforts to achieve the production of food for celiac and diabetic patients. To take advantage of the potential to guarantee this type of supply in the commercial network is the objective of the researches carried out.
Other options include the application of research for several products that improve the processes of the entities. In terms of computerization, the Mintur demands software for maintenance management in hotel facilities, the logistics of popular camping, as well as the control and promotion of rental houses.
The opening of this Science and Technology Park will foster the relations between the various institutions, while promoting productive chain and offering solutions to territorial problems.
