Deputies to the National Assembly of the People's Power of the province of Holguin, Las Tunas and Granma, analyzed the draft laws of national symbols and fisheries, prior to their approval by the Cuban Parliament.

The debates were headed by José Luis Toledo Santander, president of the permanent commission of constitutional and legal affairs of the National Assembly, who was accompanied by guests belonging to mass organizations and different organizations from those territories.

On the draft laws of national symbols, parlamentarians sought to update the current legislation (Law 42) to temper its precepts to today's Cuba. The opinions referred to the need to guarantee the presence of national symbols, the flag of the lonely star; the shield of the real palm and the national anthem, in those places where obligatory nature was determined.

It is also intended to make the use of such symbols more flexible without incurring disrespect for their applications, whether in clothing, audiovisual products, advertising, propaganda or institutions.

Suggestions were made to observe their use in internet, sporting events, marches and parades.

In a second moment, the draft Fisheries Law was submitted to discussion, in charge of members of the Parliament's Productive Activity Committee, whose task, with the company of the deputies, consisted in perfecting what is configured as the regulatory framework for the fishing activity in the country.

Issues related to modes of adaptation to current conditions, the search for sustainability and the normalization of commercial fishing in both the private and the state sector were addressed; the protection of fishermen and other individuals related to this area. In addition, the need to promote and regulate aquaculture as an alternative was discussed.

This democratic step is a form of continuity of the process that began with the new constitution, approved in referendum by the Cubans and from which they begin to demarcate adaptations to the pre-existing legislative apparatus.
