Canadian official visits Cuban eastern province

Yolanda Rivas, Second Secretary for Political and Cultural Affairs of the Canadian Embassy in Cuba, visited the city of Holguín in eastern Cuba. Rivas held meetings with government authorities and political and mass organizations in the territory.
In exchange with electoral authorities, she learned details about the consultation process prior to the referendum to put the Family Code Project to the vote ans learned about the work of the Federation of Cuban Women and the imprint of women in different areas in the province.
At the University of Holguín the visitor received information regarding the institution and its link with Canada by Dr. C Isabel Cristina Torres Torres, rector of the house of higher studies.
On the other hand, Dr. C Vilma Páez, president of the Chair of Canadian Studies spoke on the academic relations that for more than two decades have fostered a fruitful exchange, including the International Conference on Languages, Communication and Cultures (Wefla, for its acronym in English), and the Seminar on Canadian Studies.
The foreign official recognized the high potential of the province economically, she inquired about the cultural life after the return to the normal and how the epidemic was faced in this territory; she showed interest in the development and use of renewable energies and learned about traditional events and celebrations in the territory and extolled the virtues of Holguín, beyond its beaches and tourist sites.
