Tribute to the Martyrs of the Motherland in Holguín

Photos: Carlos RafaelThe people of Holguín today paid tribute to Lieutenant General Antonio Maceo, his assistant Panchito Gómez Toro, and the internationalist combatants, on the 29th anniversary of Operación Tributo.
On the occassion, wreath were laid in the monument to the Titan of Bronze and in the Pantheon of the Fallen in Defense of the motherland.
The traditional pilgrimage to the Mayabe Cemetery was headed by Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Holguín and Julio César Estupiñán Rodríguez, president of the Government in the eastern territory.
They recalled the anniversaries 122 of the fall in combat of Maceo and his assistant, and on the 25th of the constitution of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution.
The central words of the commemoration were in charge of Julio Caballero Terrero, member of the Provincial Bureau of the Party and high political authority in the municipality, who recalled the physical disappearance of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, two years ago.
"They always inspire us to continue the work to perfect a prosperous and sustainable socialism. From their sacrificial demands emanates the example that lead us today, " added Caballero.
In the presence of relatives of the deceased patriots, Caballero said: "We are and will be faithful to their mambi, guerrilla and internationalist deeds. We can never forget them. "
He referred to the next January 1st, when Cuba will mark the 60th anniversary of the Revolution. And he mentioned the challenges to face in 2019 and the right-wing bravado in Latin America, demonstrated by Jair Bolsonaro, the Brazilian president-elect, against Cuban professionals in the Más Médicos program.
