The limitations in the improvement and scientific management are among the damages of the economic blockade of the United States against Cuba in the sector of science in the province of Holguín.

Leonardo Nieves, president of the subsidiary of the Cuban Society of Information Sciences (SOCICT), pointed out that the genocidal policy affects the access of professionals to research in the networks, which restricts the updated information about technology, innovation and the environment.

He stressed that the effects also extend to the publication by Cuban scientists in specialized journals of the United States.

The blockade also limits institutions in the sector, including the Center for Research and Environmental Services (CISAT) located near the historic center of the provincial capital.

Wilder Carmenate, director of the entity, pointed out that the U.S. policy damages the acquisition of equipment for the analysis of samples, mainly in archeology, natural resources and other areas.

The measures implemented more than 50 years ago affect the exchange and contracting of scientific-technical services, such as the characterization of seagrasses and the diagnosis of sandy beaches and biodiversity, the main sources of income for the center, he said.

The economic and commercial blockade of the United States against Cuba has caused millionaire losses to the Cuban economy and limits the acquisition of equipment, spare parts and raw materials in education, health, sports and communications, among other sectors.
