The most affected municipalities are Holguín, Calixto García, Rafael Freyre, and Urbano Noris, where only half of the pumping equipment is operational, providing around 630 liters per second.

Currently, 66 communities face water service issues, with July being the driest month in a decade. Work on the Guirabo and Cacoyugüin dams is a priority for improving water supply.

The Deputy Prime Minister called for strict compliance with the drought response plan and emphasized that existing illegalities related to the misuse of water must be addressed.

Holguín has the highest water distribution cycle in the country. Juan Mario Hechavarría, delegate of Hydraulic Resources, explained that wells are being constructed and supply coverage is being expanded, with plans to extract 500 liters per second from the Güirabo reservoir to alleviate the situation.
