The Institute of Geology and Mines A.P. Karpinsky from Russia and the University of Moa Dr. Antonio Núñez Jiménez from the province of Holguín have established an agreement that will allow 15 Geological Engineering students to participate in the international GEO QUIZ competition, which will be held virtually on September 24.

Engineer Luis Alberto Pérez García, head of the University's Geology Department, explained that the event will be held online and completely in English, giving students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in the field of general geology.

The meeting will include the opening of the Karpinsky Classroom, the second of its kind in Cuba.

Pérez García highlighted that this activity should give way to closer collaboration with the Karpinsky Institute and the implementation of a project aimed at promoting the teaching of geology in Cuba, as well as access to postgraduate scholarships and doctoral training for students.

The initiative is the result of the agreement signed between both institutions last June.

The A.P. Geological Research Institute Karpinsky is recognized as the main institution of the Federal Agency for Mineral Resources (Rosnedra) of Russia, focusing on regional geological studies. Its work includes state geological mapping and the development of networks of geological and geophysical profiles.

Founded on January 31, 1882 by decree of Emperor Alexander III, the institute has played a key role in the evaluation and management of the country's mineral resources.

This exchange not only represents a significant advance for Cuban students, but also strengthens ties between Russia and Cuba in the academic and scientific field.
