The main event to celebrate the Educator’s Day at the University of Holguín took place on Thursday in the theater of the José de la Luz y Caballero university campus, with the presence of teachers, students, service personnel and directors.
During the ceremony, workers of higher education were decorated in recognition of the excellent results obtained during years of selfless dedication to teaching, research and comprehensive training of the youngest generations, contributing to the development and improvement of the educational system in Cuba.
"In the midst of all the adversities, we managed to finish the 2023 academic year with good results, managing to graduate 1,893 students, 4 degrees and 5 master's degrees were accredited, of which 4 were of excellence, while 22 master's degrees and 25 doctors from different study programs have been trained," said in the central words María del Carmen Díaz Rodríguez, general secretary of the Union at the Holguín University.
Cuba celebrates Educator's Day on December 22, in recognition of the educational work and history treasured by the Cuban Revolution. On December 22, 1961, in the Plaza de la Revolución, Fidel announced the culmination of the Literacy Campaign and Cuba was proclaimed a Territory Free of Illiteracy.
