Thousands of Holguín residents in solidarity with the Palestinian people marched from the residence of the University of Medical Sciences of Holguín to the Las Seis Columnas monument of this eastern city.

The march was led by Division General Ricardo Rigel Tejeda, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and head of the Eastern Army; Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the PCC in Holguín; Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, governor of the Province and other authorities of the Party, the Government, the Union of Young Communists and student organizations.

In the ceremony, a wreath was laid at the monument to the six young members of the July 26 movement, who were murdered on December 9, 1957.

Participants expressed repudiation of the indiscriminate war against the people of Gaza. “For the heroic Palestine, which fights, which resists and which will never give up its dreams, our solidarity," said Onelio Escalona Vargas, vice president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba in Holguín.

Tareq Tómae, a Palestinian doctor residing in Cuba, expressed that "we are experiencing a genocide committed by imperialism and Zionism against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. More than 15 thousand people have been killed by Israel and more than 30 thousand injured to date. It is the greatest crime of our time."

Cuba advocates for a broad, just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on the creation of two States, which allows the Palestinian people to exercise the right to self-determination and to have an independent and sovereign State, in the borders before 1967.
