Agriculture in Holguín: Cold campaign begins

The 2023-2024 cold campaign began this Saturday, September 2, in the province of Holguín with a massive voluntary work in the agricultural area of Beola of this eastern territory.

The productive activity was headed by Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez and Mónica Carranza Geronality, first secretaries of the Communist Party of Cuba in the province of Holguín and the municipality of Rafael Freyre, respectively.

Members of the Union of Young Communists (UJC), students of the Federation of University Students (FEU), members of the Cuba Workers Federation (CTC), the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) and other mass organizations, participated in the planting of cassava, banana and sweet potato.

During the cold season, 2,004 hectares will be planted in Beola, including three Credit and Services Cooperatives (CCS). Of the total hectares, 1,750 will be used for various crops and the rest for livestock.

For the next stage, it is planned to rescue the technology for banana planting in all municipalities. It is also planned to fulfill the cassava planting program before the end of the year for municipal self-supply; and special attention will be paid by the authorities to compliance with the planting of coconut, rice, tobacco and coffee.

"There are things in the organizational field that we have to continue shaping to do everything right, including the quality and preparation of the land, together with the organization and selection of the seed. The most important thing is to meet the need of the people, those people who support this Revolution and the Party every day and there is no better way to repay their effort than with more food," said the first secretary of the Party in the Province of Holguín, Ernesto Santiesteban.
