As part of the permanent challenge to the policies of the U.S. government and its blockade against Cuba, the Pastors for Peace Caravan (IFCO), founded by the late Reverend Lucius Walker, will return to eastern Cuba with medicines purchased and collected in his country as a gesture of solidarity.
Headed by Gail Walker, more than 60 members of the caravan will arrive on the 17th at the Frank País García international airport in Holguín, where they will be received by a delegation of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (Icap), religious leaders and other authorities of the territory.
In their visit to the coastal city of Gibara, the caravanists will exchange with the local government authorities and members of local projects, on the implementation of the Life Task, for the protection of ecosystems.
They will also participate in an ecumenical cult with members of the Quaker church, of the religious society "Los Amigos" of Holguín and will conclude the day on Tuesday the 18th, with their presence in a show by the Movement of Amateur Artists, at the Casa de Cultura of that coastal town.
Starting on the 19th, the Pastors for Peace caravan will carry out an extensive program of activities in Guantánamo, Granma and Santiago de Cuba, which includes a meeting with combatants from the border guard troops in Guantánamo, tributes to Fidel Castro, José Martí , Mariana Grajales and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes; visits to scenes related to the assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, as well as their participation in the main celebration for the 70th anniversary of the historic epic.
They will also go on a walk to the La Plata Command, in the Sierra Maestra, and will hold meetings with authorities and representatives of various sectors of society.
Pastors for Peace has faced several challenges since its founding, including last year, when they were harassed and delayed, under various pretexts, the possibility of taking their flight to Cuba, having to wait more than 8 hours at the airport of Miami, until an aircraft was designated for the trip.
