Memoria Nuestra award delivered in Romerías de Mayo

The Hermanos Saíz Association in the province of Holguín presented here the Memoria Nuestra Award to the study “La metáfora en el pensar la identidad cubana” (The metaphor in thinking about Cuban identity), by Ada Lescay González from Santiago de Cuba, and to the sociocultural project "Guajiros magazine, un estilo de vida enfocado en el progreso” (Guajiros magazine, a lifestyle focused on progress), by young people from Holguín.
According to D.Sc. Kenia Abreu, a member of the jury, Lescay's research deserves the greatest applause for the use of different sources of information, the applied methodology, the mastery of the subject addressed and the importance of its results.
“Guajiros…” deserved the prize due to the validity of the topic, the diversity of the cultural contents addressed and the adequate use of the means of support for the defense, of a magazine characterized by the originality of its managers, evident in the growing number of followers on social networks and digital platforms.
The jury decided to grant Mention to the studies “La producción discográfica de la Orquesta Aragón: eje esencial para la gestión cultural” (The recording production of the Aragón Orchestra: essential axis for cultural management0, by Alegna Jacomino and defended by Yodelvis Sotolongo from Cienfuegos; as well as the work “Protagonismo de la ciencia y la tecnología en la preservación del repentismo como patrimonio cultural” (Protagonist of science and technology in the preservation of repentismo as cultural heritage0, by Yunisleidys Castillo, from Las Tunas.
In the final speech of the event, Luis Felipe Maldonado, coordinator of the Memoria Nuestra Congress of Thought, expressed that the first thought of the solemn ceremony was for the victims and relatives of the sad events occurred on Friday at the Saratoga hotel in Havana.
He pointed out that this year's academic agenda has been intense and although changes have been introduced, it is necessary to reformulate the event without losing its essence as the backbone of the Romerías de Mayo so that it acquires an international mission and vision.
He thanked for the support given by the political authorities of the territory, the presidency of the AHS, the provincial directorate of Culture and its system of institutions and noted the relevance of protecting the memory of culture from the hostile and banal machinery of the cultural industries and do it in the name of “young art”.
Dedicated on this occasion to Cuban culture in digital media, the Memoria Nuestra Congress of Thought, the founding space of the Romerías de Mayo, constitutes the backbone of this World Festival of Artistic Youth, where researchers reflect on the cultural panorama of Cuba and the world.
