A project that includes several recreational areas and historical contents is currently being promoted in the surroundings of the Historic Complex of Biran, in the municipality of Cueto in the province of Holguín, the birthplace of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, who was born on August 13, 1926 and died on November 25, 2016.

Antonio López Herrera, historian of the community of Biran and author of this program, highlighted the initiative to rescue the different rural spaces frequented by the Commander in Chief during his childhood and youth, according to the anecdotes told in the biographical book Fidel, by Cuban writer and journalist Katiuska Blanco Castiñeira.

In this program, she stressed, different natural and historical routes will be included, such as a visit to the Sao Corona cave, where the newspaper El Cubano Libre was reprinted by Antonio Maceo, and the climb on foot or by car to La Yaya hill, where Fidel practiced his shooting.

As part of the projections, focused on this elevation of almost 400 meters high, it is distinguished the creation of a viewpoint from which visitors can observe the entire municipality of Cueto, Nipe Bay and the smoke of the sugar mills in that region during the harvest period, among other sites in that territory.

In the vicinity of the former properties of the Castro Ruz family, he said, the construction of the Casa del Mambí is planned, in honor of a prefecture located in that area during the War of Independence, where the Mambi drink known as canchánchara, ginger tea consumed to improve circulation and the traditional coffee made through the use of the pestle and rustic strainer, will be offered.

The House of the Haitian Emigrant will also be established, given the great influence in this locality, where handicrafts woven by the creative women of the town of Biran will be commercialized, he said.

In addition, a ranchón is conceived to offer typical Creole food from the Cuban countryside, such as ajiaco, tamales, congrí, roast pork, cassava and yucca with mojo, made from agricultural and livestock resources obtained from the farmers of that area.

This project includes the rescue of an abandoned workshop of the livestock company of that territory, which has all the constructive and labor conditions to turn it into a mini-industry where the more than 400 tons of fruits that are cultivated in those lands are processed as one of the ways to expand the offers to the population and to the visitors.

The materialization of this program, added López Herrera, will have a favorable impact on the economy of the municipality of Cueto and will expand employment opportunities for its inhabitants.

Through these actions to revive the areas surrounding Fidel's birthplace, another space will be created for the enjoyment of the Cuban family and foreigners interested in learning more about the childhood of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, as well as the pioneer and youth organizations that follow his everlasting legacy. /ACN
