The installation of two submersible pumps in the Cauto-Guirabo aqueduct in Holguín province is part of the actions carried out here to guarantee the supply of water to the population, one of the prioritized social programs in Cuba.

These works will benefit a population of more than 49 thousand people with stability in the service, in the midst of the drought that affects some 50 communities distributed in the 14 municipalities of the eastern territory, reports the website of the Territorial Delegation of Hydraulic Resources.

Juan Mario Hechavarría, sub-delegate of the sector, told the ACN that an investment plan is also being undertaken in the province to automate water treatment plants and extend the repair of main pipes in municipalities such as Cueto, located in the Turquino Plan to the east of the provincial capital.

According to Hechavarría they are involved in the preparation of works in vulnerable communities, among them El Coco, Guajabales and Loma del Tanque del Reparto Zayas in the Holguín municipality, which will contribute to responding to the proposals of the voters, associated with the supply of water and the reduction of cycles to less than seven days.

He also referred to the installation of a floating station at Gibara dam ready to be put into operation, the maintenance works to the networks and works carried out in prioritized communities, such as La Agraria in the municipality of Cacocum, benefited from river sanitation programs.

After several months of drought, the reservoirs of the province of Holguín are approximately 70 percent full, since the scarce rainfall did not allow the recovery of these deposits of the vital liquid.
