The “Jóvenes por la vida " contingent, made up of students of medicine, stomatology and health technologies in the province of Holguín will participate from the 1st of August in the active research in communities of the eastern territory.
Omar Estévez, secretary of the Student Federation at the Holguín University of Medical Sciences, said to the Cuban News Agency that the initiative will allow the early detection of symptoms of COVID-19 or the identification of vulnerable population.
He added that the active research is part of the strategy to contain the new SarsCov-2 coronavirus in the territory, in addition to the health promotion to prevent dengue, Zika and other arbovirosis, transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
He explained that the research also includes searching for patients with fever, rash or other symptoms, as well as epidemiological surveillance in the vicinity of outbreaks of animal rabies detected in the municipalities of Mayarí, Calixto García and the provincial capital, respectively.
According to Estévez, the brigade will be also involved in other activities of social and economic impact, including food production and compliance with the hygienic-sanitary measures guided by the Ministry of Public Health in transportation of passengers.
Holguín has more than 500 young people linked to movements in different sectors, who have collaborated from the diagnosis of the first cases of COVID-19 last March, to sanitation actions in isolation centers, food production and the epidemiological surveillance in communities, among others.
