Health authorities in the province of Holguín carried out a training program for rental house owners, as part of the measures implemented here during the pre-epidemic stage of COVID-19, in order to prevent the spread of the disease throughout the national territory.
A representation of the owners of the 504 rental houses that operate in Cuban convertible pesos (CUC) in the head city exchanged with Dr. María Eugenia Escobar, Second Degree Specialist in Hygiene and Epidemiology, who detailed the characteristics of this new coronavirus, which until 16 of March reached 153, 517 cases in 151 countries and 5, 735 people dead, for a lethality of 3.7 percent.
In Cuba, 11 cases have been confirmed so far, among them a Canadian tourist who was staying at the Río de Oro hotel, in the municipality of Rafael Freyre.
In this regard, the specialist noted that “a person can be infected by contact with another infected one, as the virus can spread through the infected droplets exhaled from the nose or mouth, which impregnate themselves on a surface and that is where the Sars-CoV-2 is spread.”
Hence the need for extreme hygiene measures, which range from washing hands with soap and water and disinfecting them with detersive substances, cleaning surfaces and avoiding exposure to large crowds of people.
She said that today the risk of transmission is high, hence the importance of raising epidemiological surveillance in their homes and their guests, and in case of any suspicion, immediately report the situation to the health area.
In the exchange, some of the self-employed workers also asked to analyze the possibility of being allowed not to provide services while this epidemiological situation persists.
The meeting was also attended by officials from the Ministry of Tourism in the province, the Labor Directorate and the Union of Hotel and Tourism Workers.
In the province there are more than 1,485 rental house owners, of which 755 operate in Cuban convertible pesos (CUC) in 728 rental houses in the municipalities of Holguín, Banes and "Rafael Freyre", mainly.
