Holguín achieves two twin pregnancies by artificial insemination

The Territorial Center of Assisted Reproduction of Holguín in 2020 has achieved two twin pregnancies by the method of artificial insemination, which ratifies this institution among the best of its kind in Cuba, for its effectiveness in treating couples having dificulty conceiving.
This center, attached to the provincial hospital V.I. Lenin, so far this year 19 pregnancies have been conceived with low- technology treatment, through artificial insemination, including the two twins. In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) has not yet begun in this period.
On his Facebook profile, Dr. José Ángel Portal, Minister of Public Health, recognized the Territorial Center for Assisted Reproduction of High Complexity of Holguín and Cienfuegos for the 2019 results, with 61 and 130 pregnancies achieved, respectively. "At the national level, a notable increase in the number of pregnacies was reached, which amounted to more than 6 thousand, about 2 thousand 213 more than the previous year."
He said that "Cuba is the only country in Latin America, which provides such complex assisted reproduction services free of charge, despite being an expensive treatment."
In the Holguín center, which provides assistance to patients from other neighboring provinces, the specialists began in 2019 more than 200 cycles of IVF, made 163 follicular aspirations and 168 embryo transfers, which allowed 61 pregnancies, for an effectiveness rate of more than 36 percent, higher than in 2018, when it closed with 31.
