Cuba to Present Advances in Research on Cancer Treatments

Cuban vaccines such as the therapeutic Cimavax-EGF, the first one against lung cancer, will be debated at the 4th International Congress Biomanufacturing Challenges of Immunotherapy (Biomit 2019), to be held from Nov 11-15 in the province of Villa Clara.
The event, held every two years, will be attended by scientists from various countries to discuss new trends and challenges in Biotechnology and Bioengineering related to obtaining products for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases, told Granma newspaper Kathya Rashida de la Luz Hernandez, president of the organizing committee.
Regarding the therapeutic vaccine Cimavax-EGF, Belinda Sanchez Ramirez, director of the Tumor Immunology department at the Center for Molecular Immunology, commented that it has proven good tolerance, increased survival and increased quality of life in patients.
The Center for Molecular Immunology, close to its 25th anniversary, founded on the initiative of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, contributes to the search for cancer therapies, a disease of great incidence in Cuba and the second leading cause of death in the country. / ACN
