A comprehensive process of computerization in services facilitates the work of specialists and patient care at the clinical surgical hospital Lucia Iñiguez Landin of Holguin, a flagship institution that will soon reach its 21st Anniversary.

The director of the hospital, Dr. Luis Garcia Niebla, told the Cuban News Agency that all doctors have access to the Internet through the WI-FI signal or wireless network of the health center.

About these technologies, he explained that this way contributes to the training and professional improvement of medical staff, which has a direct impact on the quality of the consultations provided to the population.

The X-ray and imaging equipment have been digitized, he said, through which people can access radiographs immediately using computer devices such as flash memories or mobile phones.

Garcia added that these services also extend to nuclear magnetic resonance and computed tomography, while there are projects to extend them to the ultrasound service.

He noted that in coordination with the University of Holguin, software that is in a trial period was created to order medications from the different rooms to the hospital's internal and external pharmacy.

Once this procedure has been implemented, the medical facility may have greater control and develop consumption studies, as well as reduce the risk of drug diversion.

Another significant achievement in terms of computerization in the hospital, he said, is the internal channel of the hospital, whose objective is to transmit health education programs, which for the moment can be seen in the waiting area of the Emergency Room.

The Lucia Iñiguez hospital was inaugurated in November 1998 and provides 23 services, and stands as a leading health center in Cuba, mainly in specialties such as ophthalmology, neurosurgery and nephrology. / ACN
