So far six Holguín municipalities report no deaths in children under one year of age, which shows the care provided to pregnant women and children in this territory through the Mother and Child Care Program (PAMI), in the middle of the worsening of the U.S. economic and financial blockade against Cuba.

Báguanos, Cacocum, "Calixto García", Sagua de Tánamo, "Frank País" and Cueto are the municipalities with the best results in the implementation of the PAMI, the last three belonging to the Plan Turquino area.

In this northeastern province, one of the most populated in the country, the mortality rate is 3.5 per thousand live births, of 4.4 achieved in the similar stage of 2019, in order to fulfill the purpose of keeping that indicator below 4.0

Until last July 5, the territory reported 4 thousand 823 live births against 4 thousand 743 in the same period of the previous year, with an increase of 80 births, influenced by the actions planned to promote fertility in all municipalities of Holguín.

Also, no maternal death has been reported this year, coinciding with the reports registered in the first quarter of 2018.

These figures place Holguín among the Cuban provinces with rates below the national average, and show the sustainability achieved by the territory in the PAMI, with more than a decade with an infant mortality rate of 4.0 in children under one year of age.
