The 9th Cuban Congress on Psychiatrics opened in Havana on Wednesday with the participation of some 100 experts from the Americas, Europe and Australia, who will analyze the boundaries of that medical branch regarding new technologies.

Technological development forces to make changes in healthcare systems and the field of research, so it is necessary to exchange viewpoints to diagnose and treat new disorders, said Miriam de la Osa, president of the Cuban Society of Psychiatrics.

Until March 15, experts from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Austria and Australia are meeting at Havana's Convention Center to reflect on the challenges of psychiatrics at a time of changing situations and necessary reorganization to work for human improvement.

World-renowned experts are attending the congress, including Australian Dr. Helen Herrman, president of the World Association of Psychiatrics.

Parallel to the event, the 7th Pan-American Congress on Child-Youth Mental Health, the 2nd Latin American Symposium of the World Association of Dual Pathology and the 2nd International Congress on Psychotherapy are being held. / PL
