More than 600 doctors from Holguín province have returned to their homes since the Cuban Ministry of Public Health decided to withdraw from the More Doctors program in Brazil, due to the hostile attitude of the president-elect, Jair Bolsonaro.
The Cuban doctors were deployed in poor and remote regions of the Brazilian Amazon with the aim to provide quality medical care and improve the health conditions of the less favored people, who do not have the necessary resources to pay the high prices of the health system in the South American country.
About 800 collaborators from the More Doctors program were in Brazil and those who have not yet returned will arrive in the next few days, all with pride for the mission accomplished and exalting the prestige of professionals in this sector in the South American nation.
The province of Holguín was represented in that mission by doctors from the 14 municipalities, who upon return receive the samples of admiration, respect and affection, both from their families and from the political, governmental and mass authorities of the territories from which they come. / ACN
