The province of Holguín has welcomed more than 100 doctors in recent days, following the decision of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health not to continue participating in the More Doctors program in Brazil in the face of the hostile position of the newly elected president of that nation, Jair Bolsonaro.

Luis Orlando Castro, deputy director of health in Holguín, told the Cuban News Agency that about 800 health collaborators providing medical services in several regions of that nation will arrive to the province in the coming days.

The Holguin doctor Madelín Sucre, upon her arrival in the country, said that she worked in a town in the interior of Sao Paulo where she cared for a poor population that had never received medical assistance.

In this regard, she stressed that all the natives became downhearted before the return of the Cuban brigade but they understood the reasons that led to this important decision by the Ministry of Public Health of the Caribbean nation.

The return is full of joy for the duty fulfilled and a deep sadness for patients with inconclusive examinations that can not pay the high prices required by the health system of that nation, said Dr. Alvaro Aballe Estrada, from the Polyclinic Mario Gutierrez, in the city of Holguín.
