Holguín and especially, the Center for the Research and Rehabilitation of Hereditary Ataxias (Cirah) are among the provinces and institutions of Cuba with better performance in the annual health contests, after obtaining three awards and a recognition, achieved by the University of Medical Sciences (UCMHo) in the 43th edition of the contest, whose award ceremony was held in Havana last Friday.

The Cirah has won some 25 awards in the last six years, which constitute the most significant recognition granted by the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) annually to professionals with outstanding results in the research applied to Medical Sciences.

On this occasion the three prizes were granted to the multi-awarded DrC Roberto Rodríguez Labrada with the scientific article: Heritability of saccadic eye movements in spinocerebellar type 2: insights into anendophenotype marker of permanent ataxia; and Luis Enrique Almaguer Mederos, for his research: Effects Modifiers of Genes ATXN1, ATXN3 and CACNA1A in Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 2, both of Cirah.
