Aimed at achieving more quality and effectiveness in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases in patients, professionals from the Holguín Ophthalmological Center and the Imaging service of the Lucía Íñiguez surgical clinical hospital began a joint work, both with coverage for this province and other neighboring provinces in eastern Cuba.
The work is based on the implementation of diagnostic ocular ultrasounds, carried out by a multidisciplinary team made up of radiologists and ophthalmologists from these health institutions of Holguín, according to a publication on the Facebook profile of the Lucía Íñiguez hospital.
According to the specialists, “the initiative responds to the need to optimize Health services in a complex context, where the availability of resources is a challenge,” both for the hospital, which has been in operation for more than 26 years, and for the Ophthalmological Center, staffed by highly qualified personnel and innovative technology, since its inauguration in December 2007.
This confirms that collaboration between different medical specialties can contribute to more efficient and effective care, for the direct benefit of the population and to improve the results of the sector, at times when creativity and innovation are imposed, in order to seek alternatives that contribute to overcoming the blockade imposed by the U.S. government on Cuba, which affects medical services.
The Lucía Íñiguez surgical clinical hospital was founded in 1998 with innovative technology. Its first medical activity was with a computerized axial tomography team and a highly trained group of professionals; while the Ophthalmological Center was created in the same building of the institution in 2007 with human resources trained and accredited at the Institute of Ophthalmology and a long professional career achieved from the Lenin hospital, which allowed the incorporation of new procedures and advanced surgical techniques.
