The 31-year-old woman, 33 weeks pregnant, who underwent surgery this week by a multidisciplinary team in Holguín, is progressing well after facing a fracture of the distal C3 femur due to a traffic accident.
Specialists from the Vladimir Ilich Lenin Provincial Hospital and the Lucía Íñiguez Landín Clinical Surgical Hospital, joined efforts to perform the surgery in one hour and 28 minutes with the implantation of external fixators, to achieve a faster recovery for the patient who was at multiple risk.
This highly complex operation due to the young woman's advanced stage of pregnancy was also attended by specialists in neonatology, gynecology and obstetrics, intensive care and cardiology.
According to a post by the Lucía Íñiguez Clinical Surgical Hospital and the “Lenin” on their Facebook profile, “this act of collaboration and solidarity not only demonstrated the medical excellence of the health professionals of Holguín, but also reaffirmed that nothing is more important than the life and well-being of the population requiring high-quality medical care.”
