The Second Updated Multidisciplinary Symposium on High Blood Pressure is among the activities planned in Holguín to celebrate the World High Blood Pressure Day, on May 17.
Reyber Jesús Domínguez Pérez, president of the Holguín Chapter of the Cuban Society of Cardiology, explained that the event will take place in the theater of the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University Hospital, where a space will be dedicated to talking about one of the leading causes of premature death in the world.
Specialists, residents, nursing graduates and students are invited to participate in both in-person and virtual modalities, where around a dozen keynote lectures have been planned.
This symposium is co-sponsored by the Holguín Chapters of the Cuban Societies of Nephrology, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Pharmacology, Family Medicine, the Provincial Coordinating Group of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) and the University of Medical Sciences of Holguín.
The event aims to increase knowledge and perception among health personnel and the population about this disease and its consequences.
At the same time, it will provide an update on its diagnosis and management from the perspective of medical specialties closely related to the dispensarization of hypertensive patients.
These patients, if they manage to maintain controlled blood pressure levels with the help of medical treatment, can live for many years and develop a normal life.
It is still a challenge to contribute to the reduction of risk factors for hypertension, such as smoking, obesity and poor eating habits, which often leads to other diseases.
