Holguín: New members elected to the Cuban Academy of Sciences

After concluding the academic year corresponding to the 2018-2023 five-year period, and in accordance with the statutes that govern the operation of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba (ACC), four health professionals from the province of Holguín became new full members or young associates of this institution.


The selected scientists, with a relevant career in the research field at territorial, national and international level, will be members of the ACC in the 2024-2029 period.

Belonging to the Biomedical Sciences section, Dr.Sc. Jacqueline Medrano Montero, director of the Center for Research and Rehabilitation of Hereditary Ataxias (Cirah); In the Social Sciences section, Dr.Sc. Andria Torres Guerra, professor at the University of Medical Sciences of Holguín were elected as members, while doctors Alejandro Batista Izquierdo and Wilber Jesús Riverón Carralero were elected young associates.

Riverón Carralero, a first-degree specialist in Internal Medicine, said that it constitutes an important challenge since it implies professional improvement and contributing knowledge to science, both in teaching and research work.

The scientific results achieved by this 27-year-old young scientist from Holguín has led him to pursue doctoral studies. He is also a senior professor at the University of Medical Sciences of Holguín (UCMHo) and heads the Provincial Chapter of Internal Medicine.
