Prevention against respiratory diseases strengthened in Holguín

The health system in the province of Holguín strengthened prevention actions in the face of the increase in respiratory diseases in pediatric populations, frequent at this time of year.
At the Octavio de la Concepción y la Pedraja Pediatric Hospital in this city, there are four specialized consultations where a multidisciplinary team of doctors classifies patients and assigns treatment according to the conditions of each case.
Alberto Rubén Piriz Asa, a specialist at that institution, said to the local press that the ages most vulnerable to this type of conditions are from zero to 14 months, which is why prevention measures must be taken to the extreme.
He pointed out that infants with a moderate and severe diagnosis will receive care in the intensive care unit and in an observation room, respectively, in which the conditions created for a better recovery of the children are created.
Piriz Asa stressed the importance of applying isolation rules in cases of low birth weight, heart disease, lung conditions and other complications associated with pregnancy or childbirth.
He also referred to the relevance of immediately going to health institutions in the event of alarm symptoms and adopting behaviors such as the use of face masks in homes with newborn children and complying with care schedules in the family doctor's and nurse's offices.
