The province of Holguín closed the month of May with an increase in patients with COVID-19, reporting 203 cases, of which 200 were autochthonous, for an incidence rate of 19.8 per 100,000 inhabitants.

In this way, Holguín maintains an increase in diagnosis compared to March and April, when 155 and 154 patients were diagnosed, respectively, according to data from the Provincial Health Directorate.

The pediatric age group was the most affected, with 96.8 percent of the cases and specifically those under two years of age, which indicates the exposure of minors to sources of infection, hence the need to raise awareness of risk and adopt prevention and control measures against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Dr. María Eugenia Escobar, Second Degree specialist in Hygiene and Epidemiology, pointed out that risk perception has decreased in the population, which is perceived in the violation of provisions, such as the use of the nasobuco (face mask) in public transport, in crowds and other places where there are people infected with the virus.

Escobar stressed the need for individual and collective responsibility to fulfill the measures adopted for the well-being of people in general, while she called for completing the vaccination scheme and anti-COVID-19 booster dose.
