The Holguín Chapter of the Cuban Society of Cardiology will carry out the First Symposium "Updated multidisciplinary approach on this disease", aimed at contributing to increase awareness in medical personnel and citizens about the importance of preventing and treating Arterial Hypertension ( HTA), a health problem worldwide.

The event will take place at the General University Hospital V.I. Lenin this May 17, HTA Day, based on the fact that this condition is the worst pandemic of the 21st century.

“Because it is one of the most important risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, among others; it is a determinant of complications, disability, public spending, poor quality of life, and loss of years,” said Dr. Reyber Jesús Domínguez Pérez, a cardiology specialist in this eastern province.

Domínguez pointed out among the topics to be presented at the Symposium, the Concept and classification of arterial hypertension; Diagnostic and evaluative role of Doppler Echocardiography in AHT, Hypertensive pregnant women, Current events in the management of hypertensive crisis and PAHO/WHO HEARTS Initiative for the prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases.

He added that the event will be conducive to increasing knowledge about HBP, and at the same time it will be essential for the exchange between specialists in Cardiology, Internal, Intensive and Family Medicine; Nephrology and Geriatrics, as well as nurses linked to these services, to increase knowledge and perception of this serious health problem.

AHT is called The Silent Death, because sometimes it remains asymptomatic, which prevents or limits its treatment, thus increasing the risk of suffering from diseases related, such as ischemic heart disease or stroke, among the leading causes of death in Cuba.
