The University Of Medical Sciences of Holguín (UCMHo) hosts the International Course on Natural and Traditional Medicine, which takes place every year in February and August in health areas of primary and secondary care in this region of eastern Cuba.
Under the auspices of the Chair of Natural and Traditional Medicine of the academic institution and as part of the international agreement with the European Foundation for Chinese Medicine, from February 6 to the 24th of the same month, 15 students from Spain, Switzerland, Ecuador and Guadalupe Islands exchange with an experienced group of professors from the UCMHo faculty, all specialists in first and second grade MNT.
According to the MsC. in Bioenergetic and Natural Medicine, Dr. Mayelín Cruz Batista, assistant professor at the UCM, during this stage, attendees practice therapeutic modalities of Natural and Traditional Medicine and consolidate the knowledge acquired at the School of Chinese Medicine, based in Spanish cities of Madrid and Barcelona.
She explained that during the course there is an exchange of experiences between the schools and the university to promote the Natural Medicine approaches of both countries by introducing novel therapeutic modalities such as laser puncture and ozone therapy in the protocols of therapeutic diagnoses for the diseases with the highest morbidity, both in primary and secondary health care.
“Through workshops and conferences participants also address other modalities approved by the National Health System, including aromatherapy, reiki and zonal microsystem; very novel and effective in relieving pain,” she added.
The course takes place at the Pedro Díaz Coello and Máximo Gómez polyclinics, and at the “Lucía Iñiguez” clinical-surgical hospital, the MNT reference center in the territory.
In this way, added Dr. Cruz Batista, the specialty of Natural and Traditional Medicine is consolidated, rated as excellent last April 2021 by the National Accreditation Board.
The agreement with the European Foundation dates back to 2011, since then it has been strengthened with the presence each year of a greater number of foreign students who enrich their knowledge while practicing in the areas defined for the course directly with the patient, offering consultations and apply treatment schemes.
