Based on community intervention in vulnerable population settlements, the health system in the province of Holguín boosts prevention actions, as part of the improvement projects for family doctors and nurses.

In more than a thousand clinics in the 14 municipalities, strategies are implemented to monitor vulnerable groups and early diagnosis of chronic non-communicable diseases, including cancer and high blood pressure.

Through educational talks, the approach of the population to risk factors or symptoms of these conditions is achieved, which contributes to timely diagnosis and better quality of life for the patient.

Dr. Lesyanis Batista Noris, told ACN that work is also being done on the classification of people with disabilities and adolescents to reduce the risk of pregnancy at these ages, in which the territory has high rates.

She added that the elderly and infants are monitored in the fight against dengue and COVID-19, in the face of which it is necessary to continue reinforcing prevention measures in the community.

As part of the attention to vulnerable neighborhoods, the repair of medical offices in municipalities such as Banes, Rafael Freyre and Cacocum is prioritized, taking into account rural and difficult-to-access areas, in addition to the creation of capacities for the admission of pregnant women of risk.

Yuritza Almaguer González, an official of the Provincial Directorate of Public Health, noted among the main actions the connection to the aqueduct and sewage networks, the veneering of bathrooms and exterior and interior painting, which contributes to greater comfort in attention.

Holguín has 45 settlements covered by these programs, in which sectors such as housing, sports, culture, education and the Comunales company are involved for the improvement of infrastructure and quality of life, based on raising parameters such as access to services, epidemiological surveillance and social assistance to needy families.
