Holguín closed 2022 with the second lowest infant mortality rate in the country, reaching 4.5 per thousand live births, only preceded by Cienfuegos (4.3), despite the effects of the criminal blockade maintained by the United States government against Cuba.
According to the Facebook profile of Dr. Julio Yamel Verdecia Reyes, general director of Public Health in Holguín, "the Mother and Child Care Program (Pami) had the support of the Party, Government and Minsap in order to guarantee the well-being of children, pregnant women and puerperal women”.
He explained that in Holguín "strategies and measures were implemented in order to achieve positive results in this Program, but mainly so that children were born with health and quality of life."
In this period, 9 thousand 78 children were born alive, while the municipality of Cueto did not report deaths in 2022 in children under one year of age.
Dr. Verdecia Reyes praised the work of the Vladimir Ilich Lenin Provincial Hospital, which closed the year with a rate of 2.4 per thousand live births.
