Holguín hospital boosts clinical trials development

The Lucía Íñiguez hospital in the province of Holguín, promotes the development of clinical trials to improve the quality of life of patients through the introduction of Cuban drugs.
Dr. Gisela Ramírez, responsible for this area in the institution, told the ACN that, based on the links with the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, two experiments are promoted with Melagenin and Jusvinza for the treatment of pneumonia and adult respiratory distress syndrome, which are in the process of being organized.
She noted that tests are also carried out in the control of Alzheimer's, where progress is being made in the selection of patients under the established medical protocols, through Mental Health consultations.
For the clinical trials with NeuroEpo for the treatment of this disease, doctors have been trained in clinical practices and the formation of multidisciplinary teams, as well as the selection of patients to include, in a range of between 90 and 100 people, explained the specialist.
Ramírez said that work is also being carried out on trials with new alternatives for the management of myocardial infarctions and other conditions present in the community, among the main priorities of the health system.
The Lucía Íñiguez Landín Clinical Surgical Hospital was founded on November 28, 1998 and has more than 600 beds and consultations in 26 specialties, as well as research, teaching and professional improvement projects.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, this center assumed the monitoring of the sick and convalescent from the new coronavirus, extending the respiratory and intensive care services to guarantee the survival of the patients. (Source: ACN)
