Dr. Julio Yamel Verdecía Reyes, director of Public Health in the province of Holguín, highlighted the results of the territory in the Maternal and Child Care Program (Pami), with a mortality rate of 3.39 in children under one year of age and zero maternal death, after two years confronting the Covid-19 pandemic.
The specialist in Internal Medicine said that there are conditions to close 2022 with these two important indicators in accordance with what is required by the country.
He pointed out that to meet these objectives there is a group of strategies underway in the clinics, municipalities and secondary health care centers, including plenary sessions of commitment with all workers and the delivery of resources to this Program to guarantee the health and quality of life of children and their mothers in the midst of a complex economic situation, tightened by the US blockade on the island.
Verdecia Reyes added that health workers in the province have the challenge of raising the quality of health services at each care leve, in order to achieve the satisfaction of the population.
Hence, the greatest efforts are directed at Primary Health Care. “The essential premise is in the rescue and improvement of the Family Medicine Program, with emphasis on the family’s doctor and nurse, whose performance in the clinics and polyclinics must provide resolution between 70 to 80 percent of the needs of the patients”.
Referring to medical collaboration, Dr. Verdecia said that currently more than a thousand health workers from Holguín are serving in nearly 40 nations, while a new group is being prepared to leave for Jamaica, Mexico and Qatar, where a second hospital with Cuban personnel will be opened in December. In Venezuela the agreed commitments are fulfilled, as with other countries.
Finally, he pointed out the priority offered to young people in the sector, who in the province assume between 70 to 80 percent of management positions and fundamental positions in care work from clinics, hospitals to other centers of fundamental services.
