plan turquino 2The health system in Holguín province is promoting an investment program that contributes to improving the quality of services to the population and the working conditions of health professionals as one of the priorities of the sector in Cuba.

Fidencio Sánchez, head of that section within the MINSAP structure in the territory, indicated that among the main works, the repair of the neonatology ward of the Vladimir Ilich Lenin Hospital stands out, which is intended for the care of newborns with different pathologies and includes the intensive care cubicle among its areas.

The maintenance and repair plan also includes grandparents' homes, homes for the elderly, medical offices in hard-to-reach areas of the Turquino Plan and vulnerable communities of the provincial capital, such as El Paraíso, La Yabita and La Loma del Tanque, in the Alcides Pino and Centro Ciudad Norte popular councils, respectively.

The constructive reforms in these facilities, said Sánchez, include the waterproofing of roofs, replacement of hydro-sanitary networks, in addition to the acquisition of clinical furniture for the emergency rooms of hospitals and polyclinics, among other services.

These investments include the transfer of the Doctor Gustavo Aldereguía Lima Teaching Hospital, located in a low area near the seawall of the city of Gibara to the current municipal psychiatric hospital due to the continuous coastal flooding of that area, a work that is progressing according to the schedule set to date, also included as part of the actions to reduce the effects of climate change in that marine environment of Holguín.

The health system in Holguín also prioritizes the solution to the population's proposals registered within the economy plan, associated to the construction status of medical offices and stomatological clinics, as well as the adaptations of premises for consultations for patients with respiratory symptoms, one of the main protocols applied to reduce the COVID-19 contagion indexes. /Aldia
