The health system in the province of Holguín extends the anti-COVID-19 booster vaccination to new vulnerable populations, as part of the measures to contain the new coronavirus in the territory, among those with the highest incidence in Cuba in recent weeks.

There are about 200 vaccination points in the 14 Holguín municipalities, which maintain the protocols established in the application of Abdala, the first vaccine in Latin America to obtain authorization for emergency use by the Cuban regulatory authority. The Abdala vaccine has 100 % effectiveness in preventing progression to serious states and death.

Since the beginning of the process in 2021, more than 400,000 booster doses have been applied, giving priority to vulnerable groups such as health workers, customs, transportation and other sectors, according to a report of the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology.

It also refers to the progress of digitalization, as part of the computerization programs of society to facilitate the control of national and international travelers, among other processes.

Dr. Yanelis Calviño, head of epidemiological surveillance in the province, said to the ACN the need of maintaining the established hygienic-sanitary measures, mainly the use of the nasobuco in older adults, among the most affected by the Omicron variant.

She indicated that health workers continue to improve the active health research in the face of the circulation of COVID-19, whose greatest complexity persists in the municipalities of Banes, Antilla, Rafael Freyre and the main city.
